India-China Yoga College was co-established by Yunnan Minzu University and Indian Council for Cultural Relations in June 2016, which aims to strengthen the friendship between China and India and then enhance the mutual understanding between the two nations by yoga.
The establishment of India-China Yoga College was taken seriously by the two governments and the nation think highly of it. On May 15, 2015, witnessed by Chinese Premier Minister Mr. Li Keqiang and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the president of Yunnan Minzu University and the director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations signed MOU on the joint establishment of India-China Yoga College. The event was mentioned as the item 21 in the Joint Statement between the Republic of India and the People's Republic of China. On June 13,2015, the unveiling ceremony of India- Yoga College was held . The Minister of Ministry of External Affairs (Dr.) V.K. Singh and the Associate Governor of Yunnan Province attended the Ceremony and unveiled the plaque. The first Yoga College outside India co-established by India Government was founded.
On the Nov. 13th 2015, the opening ceremony of India-China Yoga College was held . The former Ambassador , Mr. Ashok K. Kantha accepted the Letter of Appointment to be the honorable Dean of India-China Yoga College. And in January 2016, the Governor of Yunnan Province became another honorable Dean of India-China Yoga College.
With the joint effort and support of both Government, India-China Yoga College developed quickly. The college was built with highly quality. At the first stage of the establishment, the college was provided the budget and fund by Chinese government to be established with high standard.And at the same time, with the support of the Ministry of foreign affairs, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and Indian Council for Cultural Relations, India-China Yoga College and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga began to explore the way of cooperation, which is the Autonomous Organization Under Department of AYUSH, Government of India began to explore the way of cooperation. Both sides have the same intentions on the exchange of the faculty, the mutual recognition of the curriculum, the short term program and the exchange of the students and the exchange of the students. Furthermore, on Mar. 21, 2016 Yunnan Minzu University signed the MOU with Swami Vivekananda Yoga University India, which means the two university will begin the cooperation on the yoga research and teaching.
The establishment of India-China Yoga College not only strengthens the cooperation between Yunnan Minzu University and Indian universities, but also shows the characteristic of the university, that is nationality, bordering and internationalism. The college also plays as the platform for the cooperation on the India-China education. Moreover, the college boosts the initiatives such as the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road initiative, the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor and the Yunnan South Asia & South East Asian radiation center. In near future, India-China Yoga College will unite the first-class yoga teachers together and raise the reputation of the college. In the end, the college can be the superior base for the yoga teachers and yoga lovers. Meanwhile, it can be the new bridge for the study of yoga culture and cultural exchange.
At present, India-China Yoga College has opened the training course for the yoga beginners and some of the persons who have learned yoga for a long time. And the college also gives some free class for the citizens, which won good reputation.
