FAQs

1. When can I re-enroll in courses for spring semester and fall semester of 2018?

l    Re-enrollment dates for spring semester is on 5th March, 2018.

l    Re-enrollment for fall semester is not currently open.

 

2. When can the new international students enroll in a study program?

l  The Chinese Language & Culture Program is open all the year round.

l  Degree programs start on September 1 each year.

 

3. What are requirements for enrolling in study programs?

l  The Chinese Language & Culture Pro gram:

(1)   Valid senior high school graduation certificate

(2)   Applicants must age between 16 and 55 years of age (inclusive)

l   Doctoral Degree Program: Duration for completion is 3-6 years

  (1) Valid Master’s Degree;

  (2) Pass the entrance examination of YMU for international students;

(3) The Chinese Proficiency Requirement: HSK5;

l   Master’s Degree Program: Duration for completion 2-4 years

  (1) Valid Bachelor’s Degree;

  (2) The Chinese Proficiency Requirement: HSK4 (HSK5 for the Chinese majors).

l  Bachelor’s Degree Program: Duration for completion 3-6 years

(1) Being of the age of 18 or above;

(2) Valid senior high school graduation certificate;

  (3) The Chinese Proficiency Requirement: HSK3 (HSK4 for the Chinese majors).

 

4. How to apply

   (1) Applicants first visit the website of International School, YMU (http://www.ynni.edu.cn ), download the application form (http://202.203.144.4:9001) and fill in.

(2) Applicants should email the following documents to International School of YMU (Email: ynmzdxgjxy@126.com), and remit or pay RMB 500 Yuan as the application fee to YMU account (please send email to enquire the university account). The application fee is for new applicants who first request admission. It will not be returned to the students who have not met admission qualification or not been admitted. The form should be filled carefully with good handwriting or type it.

(3) After we have received the application forms and application fees (or photocopy of remittance bill), we will mail Enrollment Letter or invitation letter, and JW201/202 forms to the applicants which are usually mailed out in July for fall semester and January for spring semester. JW 201 Form is for the Chinese Government Scholarship Holders.

 

5.Deadline of application:

l  Spring semester: the last Friday of December

l  Fall semester: the last Friday of June

 

6. What documents are needed for registration?

As a newly-enrolled student, you need go to the student affairs office of International School to register. The address is Room 510, Bowen Building, Yuhua Campus of Yunnan Minzu University.

Documents needed:

l   Application form

l   A copy of the photo page of passport and visa page

l   4 passport photos

   Note: -Registration for the Spring semester will start on 5th March, 2018

     - Students pay fees while registration, which include:

     (1) Tuition fee

     (2) Accommodation fee

     (3) Health insurance fee

     (4) Residence permit fee

     (5) Health Certificate (Medical check) fee

  

7. How can I apply for a visa to China?

There are two types of visa that students can apply: X1 Visa (student visa) and X2 Visa (student visa). After registration and paying fees, our School will help students to renew the visa to residence permit (Long-term stay).

l  X1 Visa: Students need to provide Enrollment Letter or Invitation Letter, and JW202 Form from Yunnan Minzu University to apply for X1 Visa. It will take at least 20 working days in China to go through all the official procedures to get JW202 Form approved and sent to the home country of the applicant. Thus, the deadline of application is the last Friday of either June or December each year. In this case, students should provide documents by e-mail ynmzdxgjxy@126.com before the deadline:

(1) Application form can be downloaded from http://www.ynni.edu.cn and http://202.203.144.4:9001;

(2) A scanning copy of the passport photo page;

(3) A scanning copy of application remittance bill;

(3) The valid address and contact phone number in details. (It is very important as we will send original letters and JW202 form to this address).

 

l  X2 Visa: Students need Enrollment Letter or Invitation Letter which can be sent by e-mail as attachment.

l  Applicants who will study in YMU must bring the Enrollment Letters and JW201/202 forms to their local Chinese Embassy to apply for an ‘X1’ OR ‘X2’ Visa, and must come to International School for registration during the first week that they enter China.

 

8.Are there any scholarships open to international students?

International Students of Yunnan Minzu University have different opportunities to obtain scholarships.

l  The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC)

This Scholarship is open to all applicants for the doctoral, master’s and  bachelor’s degree programs. It includes tuition fees, accommodation, health insurance and living stipends.

l  Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship

This Scholarship is open to all applicants for the doctoral, master’s and  bachelor’s degree programs and Chinese Language & Culture program. It includes tuition fees, accommodation, health insurance and living stipends.

9. When can I apply for scholarships?

Time duration for applying: February-March each year. Please check “Scholarships”(奖学金)in homepage of the School website for details. We will update relevant information each year.

 

10. The Chinese Language & Culture Program

l  Level: elementary, intermediate, advanced

l  We set students to different classes according to their Chinese level. Students of different levels will have different study hours.

l  The Program will provide four courses: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The selective courses include Calligraphy, Paper-cutting, Chinese Dance, Shadowboxing, Ethnic music instrument and Yunnan Folk Dance. Moreover, we provide free HSK classes twice each year to help the students to pass HSK. We also host the Chinese Corner, the English Corner, the Thai Language Corner and the Myanmar Language Corner for cross-cultural communication.

     Bachelor’s Degree Program: RMB 11,000 Yuan/year

     Master’s Degree Program: RMB 13,000 Yuan/year

     Doctoral Degree Program: RMB 15,000 Yuan/year

l  Accommodation fee: RMB 1,200 Yuan/person/year OR

                  RMB 2,400 Yuan/person/year
